Pilot International was chartered on October 18, 1921 in Macon, Georgia. Forty local businesswomen had applied for the charter two days prior. The women had envisioned not just a local club, but an international organization from the beginning, and the name "Pilot" was inspired by the mighty riverboat pilots of that day who represented leadership and guidance. Today there are 507 clubs in six countries. The Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Japan, Singapore, and the United States. There are 14,585 members.
Mansfield Pilot Club was chartered June 1, 1978 with 18 members. Today we have 31 local businesswomen as members. We are involved in many community projects and some of those are listed below:
- We take turns each year with a party at the two nursing homes at Christmas.
- We support the "DARC" clients by giving them parties on different occasions.
- We collected food for the "Feed and Seed Ministry."
- We give an Education Scholarship to one senior each year.
- We help with "Celebrate Girls" sponsored by the Home Extension Center.
- We donate a book each year to the Library about patriotism.
- We honor our Veterans by putting out flags at the Gazebo downtown on special holidays.
- We donate to Community Cleanup or road cleanup.
- We collect eyeglasses for the Lions Club.
- We helped with the DeSoto Unit of the American Cancer Society "Dessert for DeSoto" fund raiser.
- At Christmas we light lights on our tree at the Court House in memory or honor of someone.
- We honor a local volunteer each year with our "Volunteer of the Year Award."
The Pilot Club is always willing to help with a community project, if possible. You can become a member by "invitation" only.
